Fishing

There are many fishing opportunities in Motala. Lake Vättern offers salmon, char, pike. perch, whitefish and grayling which can be caught primarily off the beaches in Omberg. Göta Canal has been stocked with rainbow trout. You can also fish for pike and perch in Boren, Salstern and Frännsjön.

Birgitta's Cape

Here you can find Ulvåsa, a medieval farm where the Saint Birgitta lived most of her life with her family. The farm is located far end of the Birgitta's Cape.

Borensbergs District Museum

Come and see lots of old objects and photographs from the district. The museum is located in an old mill belonging to von Fersen.

Göta Canal Exhibition

The exhibition shows the entire Göta Canal history, from why the canal was built, to how it was built.

Motala Fire Fighting Museum

Approximately 400 objects are stored here from the fire brigades in Motala. Take a walk through the centuries of fire protection development in the old Customs premises.

Motala Industrial Museum

In 1822, Motala Workshop was established which had a major impact on the Swedish engineering industry. The museum displays a variety of products manufactured in the workshops which includes: steam engines, locomotives, and depth-chargers. You can also visit the photo exhibition of Motala Workshop's production and history.

Motala Motor Museum

Come and see the wide selection of cars, racing cars, motorcycles, toys, radios, cameras, car and airplane models, along with other curious oddities. All in a wonderful mix and for the most part, in its original environment.

S A Photography Museum

At the SA Photography Museum, you can see over 450 historical cameras, film cameras and accessories. Enjoy an old photographers studio from 1940 and view images from the 1840's and onwards.

Swedish Porcelain Museum

See 250 years of Swedish history described in porcelain. There is also a large herb garden, English Park, Vehicle Museum and Baroque Garden. The Herb Garden is located in it's original location from the late 1600s.

Medevi Spa

You are welcome to visit the Nordic region's first Spa - the Medevi Brunn. Health care has been conducted here for over 300 years. Visit the well, along with the exhibitions and museum which are available in the area.

Worth Seeing

Borenshults Locks

Göta Canal's second largest locks are located in Motala. Here you can see when the boats are lifted 15 meters from Lake Boren with the help of 5 chambers.

Charlottenborgs Castle

Sophia Isberg's unique wood carvings are in this castle along with one of Sweden's largest cabinet exhibitions. There is also a bird collection founded by the Motala Museum, Hjalmar Flodin, and donated when it was inaugurated in 1911.

Ulvåsa Castle is privately owned and not open to the public. But, the beautiful English Park next to Lake Boren, is open to visitors all year round.
