History

Nyköpings History

Nyköping has a long history going back about 2000 BC. Artifacts have been found and documented from settlements along the Nyköping river. Even to this day, the river attracts many people to the area. Nyköping became an industrial town after 1700 and a leader producing brass. In the 1900s, companies such as NK (furniture), SAAB-Ana (automobiles and airplanes) and at Skavsta (Now Stockholm Skavsta Airport) the F11 were established. In particular, among the cultural figures in the last decade are Ulf Olrog and and Birgit Cullberg.
