Gamla Stan (The Old City)
If you want to really experience the city, then Gamla Stan is just the right place. It has Stockholm's largest selection of restaurants, tourist shops, museums and studios. You will find many delightful pathways to stroll around and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Västerlånggatan is one of the most popular streets and stretches from Mynttorget to Järntorget. The street is lined with tourist shops and here you can buy almost everything imaginable. Stockholm's narrowest street is Mårten Trotzig Grand, and the narrowest point is only 90 centimeters wide. When Stockholm was founded in 1200-century, it was built on Stadsholmen. Over the next several hundred years, it included the areas Östermalm, Norrmalm and Södermalm which was more rural. Many of the houses in Gamla Stan were built in the 1600 - and 1700's. The Royal Palace is one of the most famous buildings.You will find many museums in Gamla Stan, including; The Cornelis Vreeswijk Museum, Livrustkammaren (The Royal Armory), The Stockholm Medieval Museum and The Nobel Museum. There are also many churches well worth a visit such as; The Great Church which was used for the royal wedding and The German Church known for its beautiful glass paintings. You can also visit the Riddarholms Church which was inaugurated around 1300 and is one of the city's oldest buildings.

Erstaviksbadet (Bathing)
Nacka, just east of Erstaviks Country Manor. Wonderful sandy beach with grass areas. Cliffs. Windsurfing school and the possibilities to rent surfboards. Saltsjöbanan (train) from Slussen to Erstaviksbadet, then approximately 1,5 km walk along a trail. With car: Värmdöleden (Rt. 222) exit at Saltsjöbaden, then follow the signs.
Flatenbadet (Bathing)
Near Flatensjön in Skarpnäck. Large Bathing/Swimming area (beach), several bathing places around the lake, outside serving, walking trails, diving tower, mini-golf, and camping. Afternoon and evening sun. Bus 401 from subway Slussen to Flatenbadet or bus 811 and 816 from Subway Gullmarsplan. By car: Tyresövägen, Flatenvägen exit. Large parking area.
Mälarhöjdens friluftbad (Outdoor Swimming Pool)
You can reach Mälarhöjdens by either Drottningholms boat or Subway, Bredäng. A 15 minute walk from the subway station.

If you would like to experience Stockholm from the water, there are many different boat tours to choose from. There are tours through the archipelago and through the heart of the city. Insane
Insane is a unique roller coaster at Gröna Lund and opened at the end of April 2009. Each ride is unique because it depends upon the people you are riding with. At a speed of 17 m/s, you go backwards, forwards, straight up and down then it might spin you around hysterically. Totally crazy! www.goinsane.nu

The story train can take you on en exciting trip through Astrid Lindgrens magical world, where you can meet Madicken, Emil, Ronja and many other characters. Kanotvatten (Canoeing/Kayaking)
Albysjön-TullingesjönAn easy day tour, 14 km and starts at Flottsbrogården in Botkyrka. During the Bronze Age, existed a way from Kaggfjärden to Tullingesjön and Albysjön, and up to Mälaren which is still used today. Through Flottsbrosundet (Recreation Area), there is a dirt road which played an important part as the entrance from the south, during the Viking age and up until the 1600's. In Albysjön, to the south, you can see a giant cauldron or pothole formed by melting ice from the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago. At Tullingesjön, you can see an ancient hill fort (just before Norsholmen). BroströmmenThe river from Brosjön to Norrtälje is 14 km long and used to be an important way for sailboats. During the summer, the area is nearly a tropical paradise filled with wonderful plants and bird life. The river flows into Norrtäljeviken. Drevviken-GränöfjärdenThe route goes from Drevviken, through the forest Gudöa to Långsjön, then further through the narrow and rapid Gammelströmmen to Tyresö Flaten. When the water is low, there can be ground areas and stoney. At Nyfors, there is a short (150 m) land area where you carry your canoe to continue onto Albysjön. At Albysjön there is a recreation area, swimming areas and a archipelago of islets and islands. You can end the tour here or continue through Uddby and onto Kalvfjärden. Beautiful views of Tyresö Castle and Lurudden. The robust can continue onto Ällmorafjärden, Vissvassfjärden and towards the open sea along Gränöfjärd. Wonderful day tour. Difficulty: moderate.KolarmoraånThe rivier is 30 km long from lake Vällen to Edsbro. Along the entire route, there is a rich bird life and a good chance to see a moose around dusk or dawn. Nickstaturen19 km long, easy to moderate. The tour provides you with an idea of Södertörns southerly archipelago. The smallest way goes through Dragets canal at Järflotta. Start at Nickstabadet (Canoe rental), dettours to Sågvikens beautiful sandy beaches, Dragets canal, Rassarviken and Gravmaren.SkärgårdenStockholm's archipelago has many possibilities. For the new beginner's, there is much to discover in the inner and middle archipelago around Vaxholm, Ljusterö, Möja, Nämdö and Runmarö. The experienced can further enjoy the outermost and barren archipelago's - Bullerö, Gillöga, Långviksskär, Röder, Large and small Nassa and Söderarm. Good starting points with car parking available from north to south, in Rävsnäs, Norra Ljusterö, Vindö-Sollenkroka, Stavsnäs and Dalarö. The Stockholm Tourist Center located in Sverigehuset, can even assist you with kayak tours through the archipelago. Canoeing in Stockholm and City CenterSo few of the European capitals can offer so much for the canoeist than Stockholm. Tours are offered all around Stockholm's small lakes and rivers, the large lake Mälaren, Stockholm's archipelago and inner city canals. In other words, Stockholm has almost every possible canoeing experience available from inner city to the the outer edges of the archipelago. Inner City Stockholm - The Nordic Venice. Approximately half of the area is water, a canoeists paradise with narrow sounds and bays, canals, large and small lakes. Try Djurgårdsrundan. ArchipelagoVaxholms tour is recommended if you would like to paddle the protected inner archipelago. Farther out amongst the outer archipelago bare cliffs and islets are a number of touring possibilities and journeys, for example, Bockö-Storö nature reserve just outside of Möja. Skansen (Outdoor Museum and Zoo)
Skansen was inaugurated in 1891 and hosts 160 culturally historical houses from all over Sweden. You can also visit Stockholm's only Zoological Park with wild and tame Nordic animals. You will also find Lill-Skansen, for children, (open summertime) and several beautiful gardens. Meet rare apes, iguanas and tucans in the rain forest. Walk near the curious lemur's, the brazen baboons and shy night creatures. In the city center or in beautiful nature surroundings - you select the environment you prefer, by personal taste or time. The fish are free in Stockholm since 1436. The streams provide a beautiful and rare fishing environment which is favorable water for over 30 species of fish such as, salmon, perch, Zander (similar to walleye) and pike. The fishing area stretches from Riddarfjärden out to Djurgården. From City Hall to Blockhusudden in Djurgården, you can find good salmon and trout fishing. You can try your luck and get fishing tips located at Strömparterren, Operan, Strömbron, Blaiseholmen and on Skeppsholmen. For that "different big city experience," try sitting down alongside the dock, in the wee morning hours, and before the city awakens, to try to catch the "big one." The Drottningholm Palace Theatre is one of Europe's best preserved baroque style theaters. Gustav III:s Antikmuseum (Antique Museum)
In the Royal Castles' northeast wing, at Logården, is Sweden's oldest art museum, and oldest public museum. Skattkammaren (The Royal Treasury)
Deep down in the vaults underneath the Royal Palace, is the Swedish state regalia which is used for royal weddings, baptisms and funerals. Strindbergsmuseet Blå Tornet
In the Blue Tower lived artist August Strindberg (1849-1912), the last four years of his life. His living consisted of a sleeping room, dining room and work room. Vasamuseet (The Vasa Museum)
Krigsskeppet Vasa skulle hjälpa Sverige att nå herravälde över Östersjön men efter en kort jungfruresa sjönk skeppet 1628. Tyresta nationalpark (Tyresta National Park)
Tyresta blev nationalpark 1993, unik i världen genom att ligga så nära en storstad. Området är 3 mil i omkrets och har en mångfald av unika växter och djur. Packa en picknick och vandra i den trolska vildmarksskogen som också erbjuder bärplockning och bad i någon av sjöarna. Besök också Tyresta by, alldeles vid infarten. Här finns servering, raststuga och bebyggelse från 1700- och 1800-talet. Sevärt är också Nationalparkernas hus - Sveriges största naturum. Bergianska Trädgården (The Bergian Garden)
Large botanical park and garden at Brunnsviken.An extensive kitchen garden with new and old traditional vegetables, herb garden and Japanese pond along with an Orangery housing different exhibitions. In the Victoria House is the world's largest Water Lilly and other interesting marsh and water plants. Drottningholms Slottspark (Drottningholms Palace Park)
Inspired by the park in Versailles, with a baroque style garden and an adjoining English style park, there is also a section from the 1800-1900's. The park area surrounding the palace and The Chinese Pavilion are on the UNESCO's World Heritage List. The park is open year round. Kungliga nationalstadsparken (The National Urban Park)
The world's first National Urban Park and consists of the area stretching from Fjäderholmarna over Djurgården to Haga-Brunnsviken, Frescati and Ulriksdal.The nature changes between meadows, lakes, Ash tree forest and park-like landscape. The area is ecologically important for a large variety of plants and animals along with many bird species. The buildings and cultural landscape in the park, mirror Stockholm's and Sweden's development since the 1600's. Kungsträdgården (The Kings Garden)
A popular meeting place which began during the middle ages as the courts kitchen garden, then was reserved only for the Royalty. The first Swedish Art and Industrial exhibition took place here in 1866. It was also here that the "Battle of the Elms" took place, the Elm trees were kept and the planned Subway stations had to be built on both sides of the park. Beautiful scenery, a skating rink during the winter and several restaurants and outside serving. The Northern section of the park had a "facelift" in 1998. Among the many statues is one of Karl XIII (with a lion) and Karl XII.
Tegnérlunden (Park)
The park is located in the area of the Blue Tower where Strindberg lived the last few years of his life. Carl Eldh created the large bronze sculpture and even a statue of Astrid Lindgren. On the hill, there is a pavilion over a well which dominates the little park.
Vitabergsparken (Park)
The park began around the turn of the century and consists of Sofia Church (1906) and several interesting culture houses made of wood. On Malmgårdsvägen, you can find an old Garden Center from the 1700's which is still in operation today. Every year, when the Magnolias bloom, a prize is awarded to the most cultural personality. The park even has a popular recreation area and theater with performances every summer.

Millesgården
Carl Milles is one of Sweden's most famous sculptors and while you are in Stockholm you can visit his home in Lidingö. Millesgården consists of several houses including; Annes Hus, where Olga and Carl Milles lived during the 1950s. The interior has been preserved by Svenskt Tenn. In the large studio, you can see how Carl Milles worked, and the little studio displays works by Olga, Carl and his sister Ruth. Rosendals Slott (Rosendal Palace)
The Royal Palace is located in Djurgården and built 1823-27. The Palace is the best example of Karl Johan style in Sweden. Stadshuset (The City Hall)
Stockholm’s City Hall was designed by the architect Ragnar Östberg and is one of the country's foremost examples of the national romantic spirit. The Swedish National Coat of Arms (the three crowns), is at the top of the 106 meter high tower. Storkyrkan (The Cathedral Parish of Stockholm)
